Canada-Ontario Agreement Respecting the Great Lakes Ecosystem

Collection of materials concerning the implementation and review of the COA

Since 1971, the federal and provincial governments have renewed COA many times, making commitments about efforts to protect and restore the Great Lakes – St Lawrence River ecosystem. The 2014 COA is intended to implement the 2012 Great Lakes Water Quality Protocol and the 2012 Ontario Great Lakes Strategy. CELA is working closely with collaborators to encourage public engagement in the renegotiation of COA and seek clear government action on toxic hotspots, raw sewage overflows, plastic pollution, road salt use, invasive species, harmful chemicals of concern, and resilience to climate change.
