Job Title: Part-time Law Clerk – One Year Contract (4 days per week)
Location: Toronto
Reports to: Executive Director
Duration of Contract: April 30, 2018 – April 26, 2019

Primary Function: CELA is seeking an enthusiastic and energetic applicant for the position of Part-time Law Clerk – One Year Contract (with the possibility of extension), for four days per week (Monday through Thursday).

Responsibilities include providing legal administrative support to two Staff Lawyers, two Clinic Legal Workers, and other employees at the clinic as needed. Responsibilities include preparing reports, correspondence and processing and filing legal documents, including tribunal and court pleadings.This position also includes responsibility for supporting communications activities of the clinic including document formatting, posting materials to the website, and information management.

Main Duties of the Job:

• Assisting with enquiries from clients and lawyers on the phone and/or in person
• Routine administrative duties including records management
• Database entry including maintenance of contact lists and CELA publications
• Assisting with communications duties including some document formatting, Web site support and maintenance
• Maintaining lists, other related duties as required
• Preparing reports, correspondence and legal documents with the assistance of counsel and other clinic staff

Required Skills and Experience:

• Strong competence in computer systems including Microsoft Word, Excel, database programs, and web platforms • Familiarity with office machines and maintenance
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, sound judgment and an appreciation for detail
• File and document management skills
• Legal experience or training preferred

Salary Range: Administrative Assistant starting salary per Legal Aid Ontario grid pro rata including benefits in accordance with CELA’s group benefit plan
