Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)
Collection of materials related to negotiation and implementation of the Stockholm Convention on POPs
CELA has been continuously involved, on its own, and in collaboration with member organizations of the International POPs Elimination Network , in the effort towards an international treaty to eliminate persistent organic pollutants (POPs). The Stockholm Convention on POPs was signed in May of 2001. In February, 2004, France became the 50th country to ratify the convention, at which point the world moved a momentous step closer to eliminating a "dirty dozen" of the most toxic substances including dioxins, PCBs and several pesticides. With 50 countries ratified, the Parties to the Convention are tasked with developing their National Implementation Plan (NIP) outlining how they will eliminate POPs in their respective countries.
The following collection includes detailed and summary publications and media releases related to CELA's efforts to see the POPs Treaty created, ratified, and implemented.
