Healthy Retrofits
Ensuring the Integration of Children’s Environmental Health Protection into Energy Efficiency Programs
CELA is the lead partner on this project within the Canadian Partnership for Children's Health and Environment (CPCHE). Funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the project addresses opportunities for improved integration of children's environmental health issues into energy efficiency retrofit programs. The project includes a baseline assessment (report released in March 2011) indicating that there is both a need and broad interest in ensuring that work done to make homes more energy efficient also makes them healthier and safer. The risks are greatest for children living in low-income circumstances and these families also have the greatest need for lowering their energy costs. We are working towards a "win-win" solution of homes that are more energy and cost efficient and healthier for children and their families. This collection aggregates the results from this project as well as useful on-line resources. Additional helpful information is contained in related collections on the CPCHE website.
